SCHMICKLER, Marcus Germany

Marcus Schmickler, alias Pluramon, was born in Cologne in 1968. He lives and works in Cologne and Berlin as a composer, musician and producer. Schmickler studied musicology in Cologne and was co-initiator of the A-Musik record store in 1995, as well as the DJ collective Brüsseler-Platz-10a-Musik with Georg Odijk and Jan St. Werner. He has composed numerous works for electronic sound generators, as well as for choirs, chamber ensembles and orchestras. In 2009, by order of the International Year of Astronomy and the German Music Council, he created "Bonner Durchmusterung", electronic music with projections on the basis of astrophysical data. He has received awards and scholarships, among others from the Ars Electronica, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and he has curated festival programmes in the Berlin Academy of the Arts and the ZKM in Karlsruhe. Schmickler taught at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College in New York and at the California Institute of the Arts.
